BAPTISM IN WATER IS WRONG AND OBSOLETE!!

Acts 18:24-28

New International Version (NIV)

24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervorand taught about Jesus accurately,

though[[[[[ he knew only the baptism of John]]]]]]]].

26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.

    ‎2 SCENARIO IN THE BIBLE…

    1. I BEGAN TO SPEAK THEY WERE BAPTIZED…..

    Acts 11:15-17

15 “[[As I began to speak]], the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with[a] water, but you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.’ 17 So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”

    2. NEEDS THE HAND OF THE APOSTLES.

    Acts 8:16-17

16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

    THINK…..THINK..THINK!

Isaiah Thomas The Greek-English Lexicon of Liddell and Scott gives the primary meaning of the verb baptizein (1st Person βαπτίζω baptizô), from which the English verb “baptize” is derived, as “dip, plunge”, and indicates that the dipping or plunging need not be complete, as when a sword is plunged into a throat or into a foetus or when wine is drawn by dipping a cup in the bowl; for New Testament usage it gives two meanings: “baptize”, with which it associates the Septuagint mention of Naaman dipping himself in the Jordan River, and “perform ablutions”, as in Luke 11:38.[

Steven Boyd So the way i read it Apollos was strong speaker of the Lord and of Jesus only knowing a baptism of water. So how does that make it wrong or obsolete? what of Acts 2:38?

Jerry Mills Baptism Commanded Luke 24

Luk 24:45 KJV – Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Luk 24:46 KJV – And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

Luk 24:47 KJV – And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in (his name) among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Luk 24:48 KJV – And ye are witnesses of these things

    ________

The Promise, Commandment of Repentance and Baptism exercised in Jerusalem Acts Ch. 1 & 2

The Holy Ghost was given 1st. Then came the message of Repentance and Baptism preached by the Apostle Peter.
    ________

    The Commandment in Luke 24:47

The command was to be preached Repentance and Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ to all nations.

It was many years before all the nations would here the Gospel preached as Peter revealed the command of Christ in Acts 2:38
Some still have not heard the Gospel.

    ________

Luk 24:49 KJV – And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Act 2:1 KJV – And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Act 2:4 KJV – And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 2:36 KJV – Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Act 2:37 KJV – Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men [and] brethren, what shall we do?

Act 2:38 KJV – Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 KJV – For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Act 2:40 KJV – And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Jerry Mills NO OTHER FOUNDATION THE GOSPEL TO BE PREACHED WAS DECLARED BY CHRIST

Apollos only knew the Baptism of John. Baptism dispute? Acts 18:24-28

Paul is speaking of Baptism here. It seems apparent that Apollos did baptize some of the converts who heard and (Obeyed) the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

1Cr 1:11 KJV – For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them [which are of the house] of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

1Cr 1:12 KJV – Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

1Cr 1:13 KJV – Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

    1Cr 1:14 KJV – I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

1Cr 1:15 KJV – Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

1Cr 1:16 KJV – And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

1Cr 3:5 KJV – Who then is Paul, and who [is] Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

1Cr 3:6 KJV – I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

1Cr 3:7 KJV – So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

ONE FOUNDATION IN SCRIPTURE BEARING ONLY THE 12 APOSTLES NAMES.

Rev 21:14 KJV – And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
